Introducing
MFiM-OS™
Modular-Finance-in-Motion Operating System
MFiM-OS™ is not a new product.
It is a new foundation.
Modern finance gave us micro and macro.MFiM™ adds meso and meta.MFiM-OS™ integrates them into an adaptive systemfor a world in flux.
The Problem
The framework that built modern finance
was designed for a world that no longer exists.
Modern Portfolio Theory. The Efficient Market Hypothesis. Shareholder primacy. These are not incomplete models. They are the wrong class of tool for the system they are trying to describe. They were built on equilibrium assumptions — in an era of Bretton Woods stability, regulated intermediation, and dollar hegemony. Real markets are nonlinear, dynamic, and historically contingent. You cannot fix a design by adding layers if the architecture underneath is the problem.
Static models in a dynamic world
MPT and EMH assume markets converge to equilibrium. Real markets exhibit increasing returns, path dependence, and emergent behavior that equilibrium models cannot process.
Two floors in a four-floor building
Conventional finance operates at micro (securities) and macro (aggregates). It systematically omits the meso layer (institutional ecology) and the meta layer (values, narrative, human judgment) — the two floors where outcomes are actually determined.
Cosmetic patches on a broken foundation
ESG labeling. Purpose washing. Impact metrics bolted onto equilibrium models. Right in intent — wrong in architecture. You cannot correct a static model by adding a values layer. The foundation itself must change.
"If your framework can't explain that symmetry, you don't have a framework. You have a snapshot."
— Bob Sefcik, Architect of MFiM-OS™ | Main & Wall Financial Corporation
The Architecture
Four floors. One operating system.
Built for complexity.
MFiM-OS™ is the first wealth management framework explicitly designed to operate at all four levels of the economic system simultaneously — connecting individual decisions to civilizational context.
The Four Floors
Each floor has a role. The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
FLOOR 4
Meta
Meaning, Narratives & Civilizational Context
Values, beliefs, culture, and the big stories that shape reality. The liberal arts become load-bearing here. Where behavioral finance grows up. Why we do what we do.
FLOOR 3
Macro
Systems, Structures & Aggregate Outcomes
Economic systems, policy, markets, regulations, and long-term trends. The three-body problem of Main Street, Wall Street, and Pennsylvania Avenue. What happens at scale.
FLOOR 2
Meso
Networks, Institutions & Interdependent Systems
Ecosystems, organizations, communities, sectors, supply chains — the institutional ecology that mediates between individual decisions and aggregate outcomes. How things work together.
FLOOR 1
Micro
Individual Decisions & Behavior
Choices, actions, habits, incentives, skills, and behaviors at the individual level. Where Kahneman's behavioral finance lives — but not where it ends. What we do.
The Intellectual Lineage
Thirteen years. 20,000+ hours.
One foundational question.
If complexity economics is the correct description of how markets actually work — what does a wealth management practice built on that foundation actually look like? No one had built it. MFiM-OS™ is the answer.
Eric Beinhocker
The Origin of Wealth — complexity science explains why 2008 was not an anomaly but an inevitability.
W. Brian Arthur
Santa Fe Institute — increasing returns, path dependence, the economy as ecology, not machine.
Colander & Kupers
Complexity and the Art of Public Policy — formalizes the meso layer. The policy bridge.
Sheng & Geng
Systemnomics — the four-level architecture: micro, meso, macro, meta. Described it. Didn't build it.
MFiM-OS™
The first operational application of systemnomics in wealth management. The map, not just the terrain.
Institutional Validation
The CFA Institute arrived at the same conclusion.
Fifteen years later.
In October 2025, the CFA Institute — the global standard-setting body for investment professionals, headquartered in Charlottesville, Virginia — published Reframing Financial Markets as Complex Systems. Its central thesis: traditional equilibrium models fail to explain real market behavior, and the profession must integrate complexity systems methods into investment practice.
"There are 15,000+ RIAs in America. Nobody is here."
— Bob Sefcik, Main & Wall Financial Corporation
CFA Institute is co-located with Main & Wall in Charlottesville, Virginia. That's not coincidence. That's consilience with a zip code.
The White Paper
Section III: The Mesoeconomic Foundation of MFiM-OS™
A working section draft documenting the full intellectual lineage — from Beinhocker's origin synthesis through Arthur's complexity economics foundation and Colander & Kupers' policy bridge, arriving at the first operational application of systemnomics in wealth management.
What You'll Read
The Mesoeconomic Foundation of MFiM-OS™
Systemnomics Applied to Finance
Covers the intellectual genealogy in full: Beinhocker's origin spark, Brian Arthur and the Santa Fe Institute, Colander & Kupers' meso layer formalization, Sheng & Geng's systemnomics architecture, Ed Morrison's Strategic Doing operating model, and the meta level — where the liberal arts become load-bearing in finance.
"In the age of AI, the liberal arts don't become less relevant to finance.
They become load-bearing."
— Bob Sefcik, Main & Wall Financial Corporation
