MAIN & WALL - Sports & Entertainment
The NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness) era has transformed amateur athletics into a commercial marketplace — virtually overnight. College athletes are now monetizing their brands, signing endorsement deals, and launching ventures — often before they can legally rent a car, but traditional wealth management models were never built for this world. NIL athletes need a new kind of financial service: one that’s agile, educational, opportunistic, values-driven, and ready from day one.
This is also where the alumni network plays a critical role. UVA alumni - particularly former student-athletes - bring a perspective that can't be taught in a classroom or learned overnight. They understand the transition from sport to life, from opportunity to responsibility. By connecting today's NIL athletes with mentors, role models and career opportunities, we're helping create an ecosystem where experience, education, and values compound over time.
In this new NIL environment, the UVA alumni network can be a meaningful recruiting advantage. Connecting student-athletes with alumni mentors and real-world opportunity reinforces Virginia’s commitment to development beyond the court—and helps distinguish the program in a crowded landscape.
That said, there is no one-size-fits-all solution. Every university has its own strengths, culture, and ecosystem. The mission is not to impose a model, but to harness each institution’s unique package—aligning athletes, alumni, education, opportunity and career development in a way that reflects who they are and what they stand for.
Main & Wall is being built with a national and global reach. That broader network has the potential to significantly expand the educational, professional, and entrepreneurial opportunities available to UVA student-athletes—both during their playing careers and long after.
Our goal is not to compete with existing NIL initiatives at the University, but to complement and collaborate with them—enhancing capabilities and expanding opportunities for student-athletes, particularly in women’s and Olympic sports, where university support and resources may get stretched thin.
